Based in one of the WA offices in the Asia region - £28,058 pa ((Approx Rs. 2,244,640)) plus benefits

This is a unique opportunity to lead the ongoing development of our policy and advocacy work across Asia. You'll advise and support regional managers, country programmes and key partners as they shape their policy and advocacy strategies. Building staff capacity will also feature, as will the sharing of knowledge with colleagues in other regions and the coordination of campaigns at national and regional level as well as participation in international research, advocacy and campaigns.

To excel, you must have solid advocacy and policy analysis experience in the development sector, some of which must have been gained within Asia. Knowledge of research methodologies, advocacy planning and NGO policy networks is important too, as is the ability to train others and communicate effectively at all levels.

Recruitment of Researchers on Contract

Bankers Institute of Rural Development (BIRD), Lucknow is a society established by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in 1983 as an apex level institute offering training, research and consultancy services on various aspects of agriculture, rural development and rural finance. BIRD has set up within its fold a Centre for Microfinance Research (CMR) to take up research activities in the field of microfinance for facilitating policy initiatives and improvements in design and delivery system of microfinance services. The Centre has established four sub centres at IIBM, Guwahati, IFMR, Chennai, IDS, Jaipur and CIM, Patna. The Centre is currently looking for suitable candidates for the post of Researchers at the main centre and its four sub centres on contract basis for a period of 3 years, extendable upto 5 years.

Qualification and other requirements :

  • A Ph.d/M.phil qualification or First Class in Post Graduation (in Economics, Agri Economics, MicroFinance or Social Sciences)
  • Possess Research Background
  • Published atleast two papers either independently or jointly (as principal author) in reputed Journals
  • Other demonstrated interest in Research areas/activities.

Qualifications and requirements:

Economist- 40+ years old (i.e. middle level to senior career)
- PG Degree in economics and preferably Ph. D. with good academic background and demonstrated capacity to undertake high quality independent research
- Proven track record in the water sector and a demonstrable knowledge of the WASH (Water, sanitation and hygiene) sector / Water Resource Management
- Strong interest in interdisciplinary action research
- Excellent and proven writing skills
- High-level of numeracy and a good understanding of statistics and economic analysis
- Good computing skills
- Willingness to spend time working at the field level

WASH Specialist- 30+ years old (i.e. early to mid career)
- PG Degree in a discipline relevant to WASH (Water, sanitation and hygiene)/ engineering, environment! ecology. Must have had some training in sanitation and hygiene with good academic background and demonstrated capacity to undertake high quality independent research
-Proven track record in the WASH sector
- Must be fully conversant in current trends in rural and urban sanitation and hygiene and technologies
- Strong interest in interdisciplinary action research
- Excellent and proven writing skills
- High-level of numeracy and a good understanding of data analysis techniques
- Good computing skills
- Willingness to spend time working at the field level
- Willingness to travel out of state and just possibly overseas
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
- Enthusiastic with an outgoing personality
Project Officer (WRM background, district-level supervision)-At least five years relevant work experience but referably 10 years with good academic background and demonstrated capacity to undertake high quality independent research
- Degree in a discipline or diploma relevant to rural development
- Must have worked at the field level on WASH and/or watershed development projects / WSS projects
- Must be willing and able to work with government departments and NGOs
- Must have excellent organisational skills Must know how to motivate and to organise district, mandai and community level meetings
- Strong interest in interdisciplinary action research
- Must be self-motivated
- Reasonable writing skills
- Good computing skills
- Willingness to work long hours at the community level
- Willingness to travel frequently
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
- Enthusiastic with an outgoing personality
Project Manager- Minimum of 3 years work experience but preferably more than five years
- A diploma that ideally is related in some way to office / project management
- All round office and project support skills
- Excellent at multi-tasking and prioritising work
- Good computing skills
- Good at organising and keeping track of project files and records
- Willing and able to work under direction but also to take responsibility when necessary
- Excellent inter-personal skills
- Self motivated and enthusiastic

Emoluments for the above positions will be as per qualifications and experience.
